1.0 Introduction

Energy is an essential component in the maintenance of the current living standards of human beings globally. This is because energy affects most of the activities undertaken by man on planet earth. This is based on the ability of energy to provide artificial light and power to various systems that exist on the earth surface. As such, higher costs of energy, as well as depletion ability of energy lead to the emergence of an energy crisis. Renewable energy sources play an active role in minimizing the energy crisis. These renewable energy sources include solar radiation, hydropower, geothermal energy, wind energy, and photosynthetically fixed energy (Kaltschmitt, Streicher, & Wiese 2007: 8). Renewable energy sources have depicted higher levels of efficiency, utilisation ratio, as well as being technically available. This attributed to the ability of replenishing renewable energy at a rate similar to its using rate (Anonymous 2008). Coad Darcy village has the capacity to adopt renewable energy as the main source of energy. This is based on designing of houses that incorporates solar power and heat panels’ installation in the 6 council houses.

According to Sorensen (2000: 3), renewable energy provides approximately 25% of energy demand in the society. This depicts that Coad Darcy has the potential of being energy sufficient through adoption of solar power and heat panels as the main sources of energy. Globally, passive solar heating has been adopted as the key feature utilised in building design. However, solar power or heat panels have not been embraced effectively as a means of source of energy in building design. This occurs despite the tremendous advancement in levels of technology requiring adoption of “green energy” as the main source of energy. Coad Darcy village should form one of the most successful villages in adopting “green technology” through the use of solar panels. Renewable energy sources are the contributing factors towards attainment of “green energy”. Coad Darcy village should therefore embrace the current global trends in technology. This depicts incorporation of green technology in the design of the 6 council houses.

2.0 Economic impact of renewable energy

Currently, some of the renewable energy sources are expensive in comparison to nuclear and fossil-fuel energy sources. However, this higher cost for renewable energy sources is suppressed by the fact that renewable energy sources are not easily depleted in comparison to non-renewable energy sources. This indicates that renewable energy sources are based on long-term economic forecast (Johansson, & Burnham 1993: 29). On the other hand, renewable energy sources and their plants depict minimal operational costs. This includes costs associated with maintenance of the systems, and personnel. As such, renewable energy systems have minimal expenditures and they are available at an affordable cost. On the same note, renewable energy has acted as significant means of attainment of energy savings in the society. A factor that has contributed to the improvement and growth of economies, in the world.
This analysis depicts that Coad Darcy has the potential of benefiting from the adoption of the use of renewable energy. This benefit is expected to arise through energy saving capability of “green technology” within the village. Moreover, “green technology” will enhance global interaction to take place effectively within Coad Darcy village. This will be crucial for social interaction, information sharing, as well as knowledge exchange, which form vital components of economic development. Consequently, the village will benefit from an improvement in its economic status since human resource, based on “green technology”, will be employed effectively in the village. The installation process of solar panels in the 6 council houses for the village is not expensive. This is because the solar panels occur in a variety of sizes, which are suitable for integration in the house design, and there are no complexities on the installation process of solar panels. Moreover, the maintenance costs for solar panels are quite affordable.

3.0 Environmental impact of renewable energy

One of the striking features of renewable energy is the ability of such energy to reduce environmental pollution in the society. This is because the advancement in the level of technology has enhanced conversion of energy from the environment at rates, which are maintainable for a longer period without destruction of the natural environment including having negative effects on flora and fauna. Renewable energy has no destructive effects on the environment, as well as pollution effects (Anonymous 2007). This has led to considerable adoption of the energy as the main source of energy for the use in the environment. These are some of the benefits that the village will enjoy after adopting renewable energy strategies.
A clean village is the desire of all village occupants. Coad Darcy village needs to adopt renewable energy strategies in order to ensure that it is clean. This should occur along with adoption of “green technology” in order to ensure that the village maintains higher standards of cleanliness. This assumption is based on the fact that the pollution level of renewable energy; such as, solar is negligible to the environment. Furthermore, solar energy capturing devices occupies a smaller space in a building, which does not counteract the functionality of the other systems of the building. Therefore, incorporation of solar panels in the design of the 6 council houses for Coad Darcy village will lead to creation of more space for conducting other environmental activities.

4.0 Social life impact of renewable energy

Renewable energy has being one of the significant stimulants to improvement of social life of people. Renewable energy characteristics; such as, higher reliability levels, affordability, and reduced environmental pollution have contributed significantly to the adoption of such energy systems in the society. Globally, the society is adopting “green technology” as one of the means of saving energy costs. This technology is highly supported by the renewable energy sources. This technology is enhancing attainment of global social organizations, as well as interactions.
The Coad Darcy village that will be created through the construction of the 6 council houses will benefit from renewable energy source adoption; such as, solar panels. Moreover, the convenience level of the availability of energy for the society increases with the adoption of the solar panels in the design process of Coad Darcy village. According to ESA21(n.d), solar energy enhances the social well-being of a society. As such, Coad Darcy village will have an opportunity to enjoy unlimited social well-being. Moreover, cuts on the energy costs will lead to improvement of living standards on Coad Darcy village. Furthermore, Coad Darcy village will be self reliant on energy through adoption of solar panels as the main sources of energy since the energy has no depletion possibilities.

5.0 Potential and limitation of renewable energy

According to Wengenmayr & Buhrke (2008: 6), renewable energy has a higher potential of solving energy crisis. This occurs since most of the renewable energies have the main source of energy from the solar. As such, the sun supplies over 1.3 kW/m2 (0.12 kW/ft2) of energy flux on the earth’s surface (Wengenmayr, & Buhrke 2008: 6). This presents a wide source of energy pockets, which are not easily exploited. However, limited efficiencies, conversion processes, and installation sizes and costs present a significant limitation to the use of these energy sources. Moreover, the existing infrastructure within the vicinity of these energy sources presents another limitation. Nevertheless, technology levels have advanced in order to overcome such limitations. Nevertheless, the advancement in technology levels has led to an overwhelming competition for these energy sources, which has adversely affected the reliability and availability of energy supplies. This illustrates that Coad Darcy village design should incorporate the installation of solar panels in the 6 council houses.
Solar energy, which is one of the renewable energies, has overcome some of these limitations since its tapping process involves the use of direct solar panels. The panels are of suitable sizes adaptable to several homesteads and they are not in large sizes. In addition, solar panels need no infrastructure and their main source of energy is difficult to exploit completely. This illustrates that the competition level for solar energy is reduced significantly. This depicts that Coad Dacry village will have no shortage of energy, and the installation process of solar panels on the buildings will have no complexities.

6.0 Conclusion

Renewable energy sources have an inherent characteristic of permitting maximum extraction of energy while at the same time replenishing at a maximum rate. This energy has been known to lead to attainment of self-reliant levels on energy demand. Therefore, adoption of solar panels in the design process of Coad Darcy village will lead to enjoyment of a myriad of benefits for the village.
